The Avalon Church of Christ is hosting its annual Holiday Train Show this week — and it is a perfect Christmas treat for the family. Get photos with Santa, play the train yard scavenger hunt, enjoy tasty snacks, and chat with Tidewater Big Train Operators who love to share the joy of their model train hobby.

Dr. Miele, a Norfolk veterinarian, has been a model train enthusiast since his childhood. He’s passed the love of trains onto his children — not least of all a son who is now a freight conductor for a major North American railroad!

Whether you’re a fan of model railroads already — or just wondering what all the fuss is about — you’ll want to make time in your busy schedule this week to join in the fun. Grab a friend and go!

The Train Show is FREE and open to the public. Donations are welcome. The show is located at 844 Woodstock Road, Virginia Beach.

There’s nothing like the sights and sounds of multiple trains running at once! Check out these sneak peek videos and slideshow:

Q:  Why is the blog post missing?

A:  Because our Internet service keeps disconnecting about every 10 seconds, making it extremely difficult to research and prepare a new article for your enjoyment.

Instead, please enjoy this photo of two squirrels toasting marshmallows over a campfire.

Now look at this praying mantis snug in its wintry abode (complete with furniture and fancy chandelier.)

Chucky’s cousin “Bucky”

Want to see these characters and more, live** and in person?

Then grab the family and head for Hunt Club Farm’s Winter Wonderland in Virginia Beach. The $7 ticket price includes admission to the petting zoo, where you’ll see these guys:

That's right - they're ignoring you!

**I’d bet money these things come to life at night.
