Highlights include:
* Live music by Lost Soul Society, vendors, local animal rescue groups, and more!
* Bow-Wow Beer Garden featuring breweries from Hampton, including Sly Clyde Ciderworks, Bull Island Brewing Company, The Vanguard Brewpub and Distillery, The Oozlefinch Craft Brewery, and The St. George Brewing Co. There will also be samplings of Dog Star Vodka from Blue Sky Distillery.
* Pets and people costume contest! Guests are encouraged to participate in a costume contest (two categories: pets only and pets & people) for great prizes.

Don’t miss the Dog Walk, the showcase event of the day; a fun walk that winds along the beautiful downtown Hampton waterfront! The money raised will benefit the animals of the Peninsula SPCA! The Peninsula SPCA is an Adoption Guarantee, or no-kill, shelter that relies completely on support from the local community to help us care for the homeless animals.

Other highlights of the day include the Dog Cake Walk, Bobbing for Tennis Balls, Demonstrations, Dog Yoga, and more.

Barktoberfest Cancelled

Barktoberfest, originally scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 6th, has been cancelled.  Mary Babcock of the Ballentine Civic League shared this information with us:

We have made a decision to cancel Barktoberfest – the grounds are wet and muddy and the weather is not conducive to any out of doors activity for pets or people.
Please watch our web site and check our Newsletters for upcoming activities in our Bark Park.
Likely our next scheduled special event will be Pugapalooza in the Spring.
Thanks for your interest and your support.
Please share this information with your constituents.

Mark your calendar for Barktoberfest on Saturday, November 6th from 1-4 PM at the Bark Park, 2717 Tait Terrace in Norfolk.  Barktoberfest is hosted by the Ballentine Civic League and is open to the public, with proceeds benefitting the dog park in Ballentine Place.

You and your dog can compete in games and costume contests, or just stroll around and meet the vendors.  If you don’t have a dog to bring, visit the participating rescue groups to inquire about pet adoption.

And this is your chance to meet some of the hardest-working animals in town:  rescue dogs, special needs dogs and therapy dogs.  Find out what it takes to train one of these special companions!

Proceeds from Barktoberfest will be used to enhance the Bark Park.  Funds raised by the rescue groups will stay with those groups.

Visit and click on “Barktoberfest 2010” in the upper right corner to learn more.
