Need a unique holiday gift? Help us name our newest lion cub in honor of a loved one!

Name submissions for the MALE lion cub will be accepted through December 22, 2017, at Noon. The Virginia Zoo will donate 100 percent of the naming contest proceeds to the Pride Lion Conservation Alliance, which leads efforts in four key lion ranges, researching and protecting 20 percent of Africa’s existing wild lion population.

The Zoo has raised over $1,000 so far and the top five names are:

1.    Talley
2.    Thabo
3.    Khufu
4.    Emery
5.    Shazier

For cub cuteness 24 hours a day, check out Zola and her baby on our CUB CAM.

P.S. I wonder if anyone has submitted the name “Larrymore” in honor of our local elementary school?
