Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Norfolk closes out its 2011-2012 Concert Series with a performance by vocalist Norma Bass on Sunday, April 15th at 4:00 PM.
“A definite “not-to-miss” experience, Miss Bass performs a variety of music including selections by Ella Fitzgerald.”
Writing for Portfolio Weekly, Jim Newsom had this to say about Miss Bass:
“Two years ago, the city of Norfolk launched its Legends of Music Walk of Fame by naming [Ella Fitzgerald] among its first class of inductees. At the awards ceremony in September, 2002, a local singer named Norma Bass filled in for the late Ms. Fitzgerald. When the curtain opened on Ms. Bass, the audience gasped. She looked just like Ella. After she sang a couple of Ella’s signature tunes, the packed house at the Roper gave her a rousing ovation. She had the look, she had the sound. Norma Bass was Ella Fitzgerald.”
This performance is free and open to the public. Bring your family and friends (but leave the fur-babies at home.) Refreshments will be served in the Social Hall following the performance.
